How to rotate a PDF

  1. 1Drop in the PDF you want to turn.
  2. 2Choose 90, 180 or 270 degrees clockwise.
  3. 3Leave the pages box empty for the whole document, or list pages like 1, 3, 5-9.
  4. 4Press Rotate and the corrected file downloads.

Rotating versus viewing

The rotate button in your reader turns the page on screen and usually forgets the moment you close the file. This writes the rotation into the document itself, so it opens the right way up for whoever you send it to, and prints that way too.

Pages that are already rotated

A turn is added to whatever rotation a page already carries rather than replacing it. A page sitting at 90 degrees, turned by another 90, ends up at 180. If a document is a mix of orientations, rotate the sideways pages by listing them rather than turning everything.

Rotate PDF: common questions

How do I permanently rotate a PDF?

Rotating in a reader is normally a view setting that is not saved. Saving the rotation into the file, which is what this does, is what makes it stick for other people.

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. List them in the pages box using commas and dashes, like 1, 3, 5-9. Leaving it empty rotates the whole document.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The rotation happens in your browser with pdf-lib, so the document never leaves your device.

Why did my scan come out sideways?

Scanners and phone cameras record an orientation flag that not every program reads. Rotating the PDF fixes it for every reader, because the rotation is now part of the page rather than a hint.

Does rotating lose any quality?

No. Nothing is re-encoded. Only the page's rotation value changes, so text stays text and images stay exactly as they were.
